Two solid half dollars are shown to your spectators. A cigarette, golf pencil, pen or magic wand (made from a piece of dowel stick) is placed to the backs of the halves. The object is pushed through the coins half way. The halves now both have holes through their centers. When the coins are pulled through the coins, the coins are shown to have turned into two Chinese coins.
